Middle Management Position
ISAO has no middle management positions in the bariflat model. I don't think it's necessary.
So, what is the job of a middle manager that is "not necessary" in the first place?
- Jobs that only approve
- Have your subordinates make materials, report them, and check them. And the work of reporting to the boss
- A job that only meets and greets the general manager of a business partner
And so on.
These jobs have something in common.
It means that it is a shigoto that does not produce production.
And it gives rise to unnecessary authoritarianism through hierarchy.
Another blog about the evils of authoritarianism ( Let's stop today. Authoritarianism that organizations fall into ), so I hope you will take a look at that.
The Importance of Producing
All companies do business and are established by the profits from it.
What is necessary to do business is to take some action against business partners and the market, and to increase profits.
Many companies may create a position called "manager" to reward employees for their past achievements, and make them work like middle managers who do not require production.
If you only work like a middle manager, you will lose your market value.
Many middle managers became managers because of their achievements during their time in charge. In other words, they are the aces of the field.
So what does it mean to them to be a middle manager?
My salary will increase compared to when I was in charge.
As long as you work for that company, there are not many problems.
However, if you only work as a middle manager, your value in the market of "producing" will steadily decline.
In today's world, no large company is safe.
Many companies have also pivoted towards not guaranteeing lifetime employment.
From now on, many people will have the opportunity to change jobs in the middle of their careers.
There is a famous joke about a former general manager of a large company who was looking for a job change, and when a job change agent asked him, "What can you do?", he said, "I can be a manager."
I'm sure this person was a great person at the previous company.
Just being a middle manager at a specific company is not a skill at all. I don't understand such obvious things.
It's a sad story.
Is middle management unnecessary?
I believe that there are two roles for an organizational manager.
- Leadership
- Management
What is not needed in the future organization is the work of managing the latter. If the level of organizational autonomy increases by promoting the openness of information and the transfer of authority, management will no longer be necessary.
On the other hand, I believe that taking leadership is an important task.
Empowering Business Leaders, Not Positions

At ISAO, there are no middle management positions, but we appoint leaders to each project.
The leader has all the authority over the project.
When I explain it this way, I am often asked, "After all, the project leader has authority, right?" If that happens, it will be a return to authoritarianism.
The essence of Bali Flat without authoritarianism
However, at ISAO, there is no sense that the project leader is great. Bali Flat has a mechanism that does not allow this to happen.
It is...
One person participates in multiple projects
You may be a leader in one project or a member in another. By doing so, it is a system that prevents certain people from having authority based on their position.
Enjoy the world's sigmoto!

This is ISAO's medium-term vision.
We want to make working people happy through the services we create. To do that, we must first have fun working and become the strongest team.
We believe that by proving the destructive power of this way of working, we will have an impact on the world.
