After a year at Colorkrew
Translated from 日本語 • View original

The branding team asked me to "blog for the first anniversary", so the title is like this, but I would like to look back on this year, which overlapped perfectly with the corona situation, thinking that it doesn't matter to anyone other than employees such as the first anniversary of Colorkrew (hereinafter referred to as "Karakul") (laughs).

Situation 1 Year Ago

This is a blog I wrote one year ago when I changed my company name from ISAO to Karakul.

▼The company name has been changed to Colorkrew!

When I read it again, I wrote that I was excited about a new start, but to tell the truth, at this time, the B2B business was starting to be affected by Corona, and it was dangerous! It was a state.

However, it was helpful because it recovered quickly after that and returned to normal quickly. I had just become independent and was really impatient about what to do if I suddenly couldn't stand up.

"Shigoto Fun" is being tested

Karakul's vision is to be a visionary company that makes the world happy.

B2B business was hit by the corona shock, but the apps for Shigoto Mamoru Biz and GoalousOn the contrary, it became a tailwind. Now that it has become difficult to get involved outside of online, I have come to realize that the time has come for the world to demand Karakul's products.

We are still far from having a big impact on the world, so we will tighten up, but we would like to continue to evolve with the goal of making work in the world fun, so please support us.

Values changed in Corona

Wasn't this year a time when values changed more than ever before, not only for Karakul, but for almost all companies in the world?

Daily life before Corona. I came to the office in the morning, met with my colleagues, greeted them, chatted with people I didn't have anything to do with directly at work, and there was a lot of time when I wasn't working directly, so time passed leisurely in a sense.

Compared to the present. I almost never get on the train, I start working from home every day, and I have no one to chat with in between. With no travel time, meetings can be conducted more efficiently, and if you are not good at it, you can even have about 10 meetings a day.

In other words, there is no waste.

However, the more efficient we become, the more we lose the space and leeway of our existing work.

Recently, I have often heard opinions that remote work, which was initially thought to be efficient and comfortable without commuting, has gradually become boring as it undermines the sense of teamwork if it continues like this.

Since the beginning of this year, a state of emergency has been declared almost all the time (especially in the Kanto region), so I think there are many people in the world who want to drink with their friends.

What did you gain from Corona?

Although there is some fatigue from teleworking, I think our society has gained a lot in the past year.

There are two main ones.

One is that it has been proven that you can work well even if you work remotely.

For example, in Karakul, members who had to go to their parents' homes in rural areas frequently due to family circumstances used to travel with great effort on weekends. It's like going back to my parents' house on Friday night and returning to Tokyo on Sunday night.

I'm sure many fathers who move alone in the world are going through the same struggle.

However, now that I can work from anywhere, I can go back to my parents' house for one week and spend the next week in Tokyo.

Even at Karakul, since it is no longer a prerequisite to come to work every day, we can now hire people who live in rural areas, and for the first time, we hired people who do not live in the Kanto region.

Some people move from Tokyo where they originally lived in search of a larger house in the suburbs. I feel that by being able to work flexibly, I am definitely increasing my options for how to live.

The second is that the compulsory online has increased the literacy of online tools in society as a whole.

This makes it easy to "meet online" with anyone. In addition, the story of "Then when and when will we have a meeting next week" can be overwhelmingly shortened by saying, "Then let's talk about it today."

Caracul's Thoughts on Post-Corona Companies

This year of the corona disaster has not been all good or bad. The important thing is how to make use of this experience after the corona crisis is over.

While teleworking, we realized that "you don't have to choose where to work" and at the same time, "it is quite important to work at the same time."

This means that in the future, if there is no time difference, it may be possible to compete with the Japanese market from Asia, Oceania, etc.

Furthermore, if you think the other way around, you can think of having bases in Asia, Europe (or Africa), and the United States (or South America) in order to take over 24-hour development and customer service.

If you do this, you will be able to work while traveling around the world, not just workcation, which has been difficult until now. How wonderful!

It is a priority for society as a whole to recover the economy damaged by the corona, but once it calms down, we will practice a work style that overturns conventional wisdom and create an evolved Bali Flat. And I would like to reflect that experience in Goalous, Mamoru, and even more new products to deliver new value to workers around the world.
