Completed in 3 days! Practical Design Sprint Workshop
Translated from 日本語 • View original

Hello, this is Aimi Nakajima.

In February, we held a design sprint workshop for Gorist Co., Ltd.!

As a sprint master, I facilitated three days with UX designer Nobu (photo 1st on the right).

What is a Design Sprint?

Design sprint is a design thinking framework proposed by GV (formerly Google Ventures) in the United States. A team of about 7 people will be formed and will be focused on 5 days from Monday to Friday to extract issues and conduct user interviews using prototypes.

It is introduced in detail in past articles, so please read it if you like.

At the end of last year, the two of us traveled to Texas for less than two months to work with an American team that is making improvements in agile development and sprints in our daily work. I was able to incorporate what I learned and use this method and try my own process.

About GORIST Inc.

"Gorist Co., Ltd."

Hmm???

When I received the inquiry email, I rubbed my eyes.

ISAO's Goalous is like a brother's name. Moreover, the location is close to Iwamoto Town ⇔ Akihabara.

When I met him, I felt like he was a stranger because he had adopted OKRs (Objective/Key Result) and a multinational, friendly and well-developed internal system!

Is it some kind of fate?

Mr. Goist operates multiple data aggregation and analysis services by utilizing his knowledge of the HR industry, his unique technical capabilities such as data mining, and his high design skills.

This time, we have decided to conduct a 3-day design sprint on the theme of "HRog Chart"!

Design Sprint Completed in 3 Days

In the design sprint provided by ISAO, after one or two hearings and meetings in advance, the time schedule and content will be arranged.

In this case, many of the participants were not involved in the product, so we decided to spend the morning of DAY1 sharing the history of the product and what we have done in the past from the CTO, who has been in charge of planning and development since the beginning of the business.

This time is very important, and I thought, "That's right!" and "I didn't know!" I saw that each person became themselves and the team became one.

In addition, there was a hidden goal that the go-list could host sprints, so we added a twist to the explanation slides so that people could learn how to facilitate.

The sprint, which was originally planned for 5 days, will be arranged for 3 days, so especially in the first two days, my head and hands will be fully rotated!

It was carried out on such a schedule.

After the sprint, we received these comments from everyone.

After all, it seems that there are many things that you will notice when you experience it. I think the real pleasure of sprinting is what you notice when you get an unexpected response in user testing.

- It was completely different from actually doing classroom lectures such as book information! - Once again, I thought that the members seriously thought about how customers were using the company, and we were able to spread the service to our company. - Creating prototyping within time limits and using it for user testing was very informative. I also got a sense of being able to produce results through the sprint, which was very meaningful! - You now know what is required to create a prototype and how to ask questions during user testing, and you can get a guide for each phase. - In the user test, I was able to clearly see the difference between imagination and reality. - Everyone who participated was able to share their opinions toward the same goal.

Awareness and Learning as a Sprint Master

The fact that we were able to hold the event with a large number of people who wanted to do so, and the fact that we started having serious discussions about the UI during breaks while looking at the output post-its, Mr. Golist was a very conscious team. Great!

Although the target industries are different, we have learned a lot from this attitude as we are also in the business of web and app development for our own company and our clients.

I think that the design sprint has made it easier to discuss UX/UI improvements within the company, and that a common language and common experience have been created that can be discussed across departments and roles.

The facilitator is also quite hard because it requires strict time and flexible response while reading the atmosphere of the team.

Especially on DAY1, which uses my brain, the beer I drank after the end was the best!

I'm looking forward to sprinting with a different team and product.
