I didn't want it to end with just operation and maintenance. Colorkrew's choice of "next career"

Nice to meet you! This is Sato, an infrastructure engineer at Colorkrew.

I joined the company mid-career in July 2025 and am currently working on infrastructure and resales in the contract business area.

In this article, I would like to introduce how I chose Colorkrew as my new job, and the gaps and charms I felt while working.

(The second glasses from the left are me)

Why did you come to Colorkrew?

I was originally a technical college graduate, and after graduating from the undergraduate course (5th year) while studying the information field, I got a job at a local company.

At the company I joined as a new graduate, I was engaged in maintenance of multifunction devices and network equipment, and from there, I was offered a job offer to a certain SES company, moved to Tokyo, and after two and a half years of experience in operation and maintenance work, I came to Colorkrew.

There are various reasons for choosing Colorkrew, but the biggest one was the sense of crisis about the current situation.

I think that "let's gain experience from operation and maintenance and step up to design and development" is one of the career plans for people who have entered the IT industry with no experience.

In fact, I felt that way too.

However, practical experience is very important in SES, where immediate combat is required, so it was difficult to say, "I only have operational experience, but I want to do development."

It depends on the project whether you can gain upstream knowledge/experience in operation.

As a result, it tends to be "I have experience in management, so the next project will also be in operation", which is very reasonable, but what about considering my own career?

At that time, I was worried about how long it would be to be okay to be lucky enough to get a project where I could gain experience in the IT engineering community, where I need to study for a lifetime.

With that in mind, I found Colorkrew when I was looking at job search sites.

Since the design ~ operation is carried out in an integrated manner, it can lead to career advancement while making use of the experience in operation and maintenance so farI decided to change jobs.

Actually Work

I was naturally surprised by the unique corporate culture, including communication measures such as Go to Lunch/Drink, but I would like you to read other people's blogs about that area...

My first impression was, "Everyone is very motivated to work, perhaps because of the culture that values challenges It was.

There are places where you are required to actively raise your hand, and when I see members of the same age serving as project leaders, I have to do my best! I feel like that.

Even young members have an environment where they can take on customers as project owners, build an environment, and improve operations, and the system of setting and evaluating goals with evaluators once every three months allows them to grow while clearly looking to the future depending on their enthusiasm.

In my case, of course, I was mainly in charge of regular operations such as OS updates at first, but from the month after joining the company, I was able to work on improving the monitoring system that had already been built using Terraform. Now we are also building a customer environment from time to time.

I had never touched Terraform, but I was motivated to study properly and was entrusted with it. A gentle world.

Also, is it a point that I didn't have in my previous job or previous job that I was able to evaluate for my business improvement?

I remember that even if I noticed improvements, I often put them off for various reasons, such as not being able to take time, troublesome, and not being evaluated even if I allocate man-hours (especially in SES, tasks that are difficult to lead to unit cost increases are not evaluated).

On the other hand, within Colorkrew's infrastructure team, there is a concept of evaluating and encouraging active improvement of the company's operations as "improving operational efficiency" and "leading to business improvement proposals to customers". There is.

There are various large and small improvements, but for example, let's say you modify the alert response procedure as follows.

  • Previous: "Escalate if CPU usage alerts occur frequently in a short period of time"
  • After: "Escalate if CPU Usage Alert is raised more than 5 times in 30 minutes"

It's a small change, but just by removing ambiguity, you won't have to go through the hassle of getting confirmations or waiting for answers, and by reducing this waste, you'll be able to spend more time on more meaningful tasks.
As an aside, I wish I had studied English more seriously before joining the company.

I don't often use English in my work as an infrastructure engineer, but communication, meetings, and training within the company are basically in English!

While attending a company information session, I decided on Colorkrew with the idea that "if I put myself in an environment where I have no choice but to use English, I will improve", so it's exactly what I was aiming for.

Conclusion

Although I wrote about it as a reason for changing jobs at the beginning, my motivation was that I wanted to put myself in a higher-level environment because of the sense of crisis about being left behind as an engineer.

To be honest, I wasn't that enthusiastic about my work before, but as a result, by surrounding myself with people who were enthusiastic about my work, I was naturally pulled and now I am highly motivated to work on my work. Crack.

It is difficult to find a job that suits you, but I think that people who want to actively work with their hands and people who want to work while feeling teamwork will be able to enjoy working as an infrastructure engineer at Colorkrew, so if you are interested! Please apply!
