Nice to meet you, I'm Tsukada, who is in charge of UI design and information design.
Since I started learning about "human-centered design" three years ago,
We have introduced the concept of UX design and service design into practice and facilitated it in-house.
It's hard to understand this.
Since 2012, the audio department of the navigation terminal that connects to the Internet of a certain automobile manufacturer
I also participated in the trial research for about two years, so
This time, I will write my own theory (just my own theory) on this theme.
◆HMI (human-machine interface) of conventional cars
I feel that the HMI of car navigation systems has changed significantly in the past few years.
By developing and entering the in-vehicle devices of Google and Apple,
There have also been changes in the way the UI is presented and operated.
Most of the Japanese automakers follow the guidelines stipulated by the Automobile Manufacturers Association.
I am creating a UI design for navigation.
This means that user operation is considered to give top priority to "safety" and "safety" in operation during operation.
On the other hand, HMI design in accordance with regulations was similar to that of all car navigation manufacturers.
JAMA "Guidelines for Image Display Equipment"
http://www.jama.or.jp/safe/guideline/pdf/jama_guidelines_v30_jp.pdf
Among them, the guidelines of T Automobile, the largest manufacturer in Japan, are among the best in the world.
It was a strict regulation, and there were strict regulations that made us designers cry.
A few years ago, Apple's "Apple CarPlay" appeared!
To be honest, it seems to overturn the previous domestic guidelines and regulations.
It was a simple and clean UI.
Character height: 5.5mm is not enough~.
As a bonus, the electrostatic touch panel moves smoothly like a smartphone.
Does this pass the domestic HMI regulations???
Well, I was shocked,
When I touched the actual machine at the motor show, it was surprisingly easy to use! !
Why?!
Doesn't it mean that usability is good if you follow the guidelines? ?
◆ Affordance of new operations in the smartphone era
Yes, since Jobs announced the iPhone about 8 years ago,
We unknowingly operate the touch panel independently
So you were used to the shape and arrangement of app icons.
In other words, we had a "new affordance" with Apple (iPhone).
Since the beginning of the 2000s, all kinds of devices have been used in daily life.
In today's world, our UX is evolving every day!
Recently, IoT festivals are everywhere in Seatech...
In people's lives, all products that were completed standalone until just about 10 years ago
It is a world where we are connected through the Internet as a matter of course.
Furthermore, combined with the diversity of consumers' activities,
Nowadays, the existing car HMI guidelines state that
It is becoming a regulation that promotes "lameness" and "difficulty in use".
◆It is necessary to review the essential needs of users through "human-centered design" because it is now The evolution of cars by IT will continue in the future.
As manufacturers evolve in autonomous driving technology, drivers' behavior and desires while driving will also change.
・Video and animation UI where operation while driving was regulated
・8 seconds bound rule until the completion of 1 task operation
・Number of button placements on one screen and size of the press judgment range
You don't have to be aware of this anymore!
If it is already going to be autonomous driving, it is a human, "human"! !
Centered on the driver, the stakeholders involved in the car while driving
It is important to pursue essential desires.
In such a case, in the sense of going back to the basics, "human-centered design" is a well-made process framework~.
I think that this kind of process has been introduced in the development field of navigation in-vehicle aircraft as well.
If so, driver distraction outside of Japan should change rapidly!
From the perspective of a UI designer, I want to design more freely beyond this regulation!
So, to summarize forcibly,
"Safety" and "safety" are important, but new UX development is also needed in the field of cars.
To that end, we clarify the essential human needs for HCD and experience,
"Activities to create new driver affordances"!
I learn every day that this is the next step for us UI designers.
See you next time...
