How to Join the Company
I majored in business administration at university, but by chance I became interested in computer science and wrote programs on my own between classes. Originally, I planned to study computer science professionally at an overseas school after graduation, but due to the influence of Corona, I decided to look for a job in Japan. I thought it would be difficult to work immediately after graduation (I decided to look for a job around October of my fourth year of university), so I took a one-semester leave from university to postpone my graduation and look for a job in the next year's new graduate slot. I first met Colorkrew when I was introduced to a job hunting agent specializing in new graduates. From the first interview, I felt that it was very different from other companies (suddenly a coding test was asked to solve it while explaining it in English), and it was a free and interesting company. In the final interview, the representative, Nakamura, asked me if I couldn't graduate because I didn't have enough credits, and I became angry and explained the real reason, but later at a drinking party, he said, "The higher the annual income tends to be, the more you dropped your grades when you were a student," citing his friend as an example, and I felt a little frustrated that I had become angry. As a result, I was looking for a job with the assumption that I would join the company in April of the following year, but I decided to start working immediately after graduating from university, thinking that it would be better to gain experience as a member of society as soon as possible. This is why I joined the company as a new graduate in July.
Projects Involved
July: One month after joining Colorkrew ID , I was developing my own product (web application) named Colorkrew ID in parallel with basic training as a member of society. Roughly half of the day is training, and the other half is development. My main focus was on back-end development that handles user requests using PHP, but at the same time, I was able to develop user screens using Javascript and HTML/CSS, so I was able to challenge myself in various areas with a high degree of freedom because of my own products.
August: Contract development project (data analysis platform development) From about the second month after joining the company, a new project was launched, so we decided to develop a data analysis platform using Azure (a cloud platform developed by Microsoft). Specifically, you can use a service called Azure Data Factory to write scripts in SQL and assemble a data analysis pipeline. I was hired as a web engineer, but I was surprised that I would change to a data engineer after two months of joining the company, but when I started developing, it was very interesting and I felt that a new world had opened up.
September ~ Present: Contract development project (data analysis platform development) When the first project was completed, another project for data analysis platform development came in. This project is to recreate the existing analysis platform using Databricks, a technology that is still unfamiliar in Japan. We mainly use Python and SQL to develop batch processing that regularly loads and processes large amounts of data. Compared to the previous time, it is a very large project, and we are working together with multiple teams to develop it. Communication is basically in English, as about half of the development team is English speakers. Many Japanese members of the company are not very good at English, but they still try to establish communication every day. I will introduce this in another blog.
Try working for 4 months
I have no experience working for other companies, so I can't compare them, but I feel that Colorkrew is a different company. If anything, the company has many mid-level to veteran members, but I don't think everyone has any hesitation in changing regardless of age. Is the expression omnivorous correct? Rather, I feel that veteran employees are more motivated to learn everything from young people. I'm scared. In a good way, I think Colorkrew is a weird company.
