What I felt after joining Colorkrew. Challenges as Cloud Security Engineers

Self-Introduction

Nice to meet you. I'm Yawata, a cloud security engineer at Colorkrew.

I joined mid-career in April 2026 and am currently involved in building and operating customer cloud environments as well as security-related tasks.

I have been involved in operating cloud infrastructure and system development centered on AWS. In my previous job, I was responsible for cloud operations, improvements, and business automation for our company's services.

This time, I would like to talk about the reasons I decided to change jobs to Colorkrew, what I felt after joining, and the sense of fulfillment I find in my daily work.

Why I Joined Colorkrew

One of the biggest reasons I decided to join Colorkrew was the offer interview.

When I sent my questions in advance, they prepared a document for me explaining not only the benefits of working at Colorkrew but also the challenges involved, and they explained it carefully.

It was impressive that they spoke frankly not only about the company's strengths but also about its strictness. I felt, "If it's a company that speaks this honestly, I can trust it," and my desire to join was greatly tilted.

I was also attracted by the high transparency of salaries and evaluations, a culture of proactive openness of information, and organizational structures that make it difficult for authority to concentrate on specific individuals.

Originally, I wanted to take on a role where I could directly contribute to solving customer challenges and business growth, leveraging my experience in cloud operations. In my previous job, I found solving technical challenges rewarding, but I didn't have many opportunities to truly feel how those results contributed to the business.

Also, since I wanted to take on the security field that I'd long been interested in, Colorkrew, which works in both cloud and security, felt it matched my own direction.

Impressions After Joining the Company

I had heard that it was an environment where I could gain a wide range of experiences before joining, but in reality, far more projects were being handled simultaneously than I had imagined, and I was surprised by the scale of the project.

It is normal to handle multiple projects simultaneously, each facing different clients and environments.

Since my previous job mainly involved operating our own services, I had a certain set of systems and conditions to consider.

On the other hand, at Colorkrew, each customer has different cloud services (such as AWS or Azure), system configurations, and required requirements. Therefore, even when handling the same services or tools, it is necessary to consider optimal operations and responses tailored to each environment.

Another distinctive feature was the ability to be involved in both new and existing projects.

For new projects, you gain experience in launching projects through meetings with clients and operational design. On the other hand, existing projects allow you to build trust with customers while engaging in ongoing operational support and improvements.

At first, I struggled to catch up, but I feel it's an environment where I can acquire a wide range of skills because I can experience different positions and roles.

Fulfillment

At Colorkrew, the scope of work is broad, allowing you to take on various challenges depending on your own experience.

Recently, I have been involved in new SOC projects, including meetings with clients and operational design, from the project launch phase onward.

In my previous job, I mainly worked on building and operating systems, but now I have opportunities to organize issues together with clients and consider what kind of operations and systems are optimal.

It's challenging because not only technical knowledge but also customer perspective and project driving skills are required, but I feel this creates an environment where you can grow every day.

Although I have only recently joined the company, I have been given opportunities to take on new challenges one after another, and each time I feel that my range of defense is gradually expanding.
Of course, it's not all easy, but the more you challenge, the more you can do, which is the greatest reward right now.

The Atmosphere of Colorkrew

Before joining, I was a bit more concerned about human relationships and communication than technical aspects.

However, once I actually joined, those worries quickly disappeared.

If you tweet about your issues in the Teams bulletin, someone will respond, and you can also have time to consult during the daily morning meeting.
When I first joined, I sometimes wondered, 'Is it okay to ask this?' but in reality, there was an atmosphere where you could easily consult about even the smallest things. Thanks to that, I can work with peace of mind without having to handle everything alone.

Also, when I come to the office, I often have opportunities to have a light drink after work and chat outside of work.

Through these daily efforts, I feel that relationships have become easy to consult with.

I think the atmosphere of 'Let's give it a try first' is one of the very positive people at Colorkrew.

Finally

Colorkrew is an environment where those who want to learn and challenge themselves can grow significantly.

There are many projects and many demands, but this allows you to gain a wide range of experience in cloud, security, operations, customer service, and more.

I myself still have a lot to learn, but I enjoy new challenges every day while working.

I hope reading this article has sparked even a little interest in Colorkrew.
