Which Label Printer Should I Use?

As Sugapi writes in "Tepla is recommended for equipment management with QR codes! Basics", Colorkrew uses a commercially available label printer to make equipment stickers with QR codes.

If you have label creation software for PC that can print merge and print QR codes, it doesn't matter if you have a manufacturer.

If you have a label printer on hand, check the manufacturer's site with the following in mind:
Perhaps there is equipment available from most manufacturers.

• Can you connect to a PC?
• Is there any printing software available to control label printers?
  • Can you print QR codes?
  • Can you merge print?

I use Tepla's SR530 at Colorkrew.

From now on, I would like to explain how to make equipment labels with this model.

Start with Preparation

First, go to the King Gym website, drop the driver and label printing software for your PC, and install it.
Tepla drivers are also installed along with the printing software SPC10, but...

Here is tip number 1.

Uncheck the item "Manage printers that are usually used in Windows" on the Windows printer settings screen.

This is a function that Windows switches between "normally used printers", but label printers are also included.
After making the label, you can remove the Teplar from the PC, but if you print something while it is connected, the printout will come out of the Teplar.

Don't make a two-meter-long approval letter like I did and get seriously damaged.

Create List Data for Printing

Next, connect to the Colorkrew Biz management page and click "Download Registration List" from the "Equipment Search" screen.

When you open the dropped data in Excel, the information of the equipment registered in Biz is displayed, and you can sort and align it by "equipment ID".
Then, he left the data to be printed and deleted the rest.

Now the data for printing is ready.
Save it to a file.

Create a Print Template

Start the label printing software SPC10.

First, a dialog will open to select the type of print, so please select [Pour] → [Horizontal].

You can drag and drop the icons to the right of the table headings into the layout on the left to arrange them in the layout.
If you want to lay out a QR code, right-click on the icon you want to drop and change the attribute to "QR code".

Here is tip number 2.

I am often asked, how do you decide on items other than QR codes to display on labels? That's the point.
This is also a lot of things on Colorkrew.

From "all you need is a QR code" to "Let's write everything we can".

In the end, I settled on the idea of "putting up to two items that I think are important about the equipment number of the device indicated by the QR code."

This is because it is an in-house system in which PCs are procured at any time according to the increase in the number of people, so the warranty period can be seen at a glance and repairs can be quickly responded to in case of trouble.

Another item will be important for companies that replace PCs in bulk every few years.

Print

It's easy.

Just click on the "Print" icon from the toolbar.

It cuts and prints labels sequentially while pouring in the list on the left.

And tip number 3.

It is safer to limit to about 100 label stickers at a time.

This is because if the tape exceeds 100 sheets, there will be cases where the tape becomes wrinkled and the printing fails (about 1 in 100~200 sheets).
The only way to quickly process this is to check the printed label stickers side by side from one end, and in that case, it is safe to keep the number of prints within 100 sheets.

It is convenient to cut the four corners of the finished label sticker in a circle to prevent the seal from peeling off.

The SR530 also has an electric cutter that rounds the corners, but if you use the wrong amount of force, the radius of the curve to be cut will change, so it doesn't look very good.
And the sound is quite noisy.

That's why I use scissors like this.

In addition to rounding the corners, you can also cut the tape at right angles, which is useful when you want to shorten the left and right sides by one millimeter or when you only have space to paste a QR code.

Actually, about 10 years ago, I wrote a smartphone app that manages PCs with QR codes.

Smartphones have not yet become fully popular, and it was said that it was the first year of the cloud.
It was not possible to take inventory together like Colorkrew Biz, and it only had the effect of preventing the worker's effort and handwriting mistakes, but it was possible to improve the efficiency of the work to a certain extent.
